1000names - Machine City

Svetlana Industries are continuing to establish themselves as one of the more interesting, boundary pushing, forward thinking labels around with this brand new EP they just released for Bulgarian duo 1000names.

Been waiting to hear more of these beats coming from Sofia, seeing that Before Sunrise released early 2011 had been one of my favourite tunes of the year (and was played on the very first Pop Lock Sunday on Space Invader Radio). Machine City’s twisted electrified groove and psychedelic arpeggios are a walk through the funkier lands of the dark side. And while it might be quite difficult to fit these tunes into a certain genre box, that’s not to imply that 1000names’ sound is not a coherent, well shaped one, reminding me most of, not surprisngly, another producer out of Svetlana Industries’ roster, and another favourite of mine, Kelpe (even twitter thought he was “similar to”) .

I was lucky enough to attend Svetlana’s banging showcase party in LDN earlier this month, and I can easily say I got a good feeling about the future of this here Industry. It’s only the labels 7th release, and they seem to get more focused and the quality just keeps rising. Big up guys!

Checkout the biggest tune of the EP, Planet Video, and then have a little go on the retro blast of a video of La Boheme. Then head over to bandcamp to cop the whole thing. You know you want to.
